Hi Jonathan, (Excuse the top posting) YOU is Yast Online Update. This is the wonderful tool that SUSE has built and refined over the years and releases that provides you with a easy and painless way to allow your system to be updated with the newest, safest versions of the installed code on your system. Once you have used it a while you will love it. Peterb On Tuesday 10 August 2004 07:54 am, jonathan_hughes@goodyear.co.za wrote:
Hi list,
excuse my nob question - but I just have to know. What is meant when the list refers to YOU? Very broken indeed.
Happened after the kdebase/libs updates via YOU. The stock KDE that shipped on the CDs works fine. I looked into the src but there is a gazillion diffs applied in the security update version of KDE on YOU. I sent a personal note to the maintainer at SuSE but was told it wouldn't be fixed until 9.2 which was a bit disturbing (that a security update broke kmenuedit functionality). I sincerely hope they revisit that plan....
He also mentioned that 3.3 packages would be available and that it was easier to fix menu editing there. I asked for clarification if that meant 3.3 would be available on YOU or supplementary but didn't get a reply (sigh).
You can upgrade to the 3.2.3 version available on the supplementary site and your menu editing will be restored. Wack those files in ~/.config and ~/.local before you do. There's a bunch of posts on these lists detailing how to configure the new installation source in YaST to-do install from supplementary.
Good luck!
P.S. If SuSE is watching it would be nice to have some clarification on the above.
Keith

It seems that kmenuedit is just awfully broken. Anyone else experiencing this? Any wisdom about potential remedies?
