I am using SMB to make my SuSE box (Std Server 8) a Window$ NT4.0 Backup
Domain controller. Works fine.
I then enabled logins from Windows users - as I think you have. This worked
fine for my account as I already has a home directory for my ID.
I then tried to login as a standrad Window$ Domain User - the password and
ID (from Windows) worked - BUT - the home directory was not avaliable so
the login bombed with the apropriate message (the message I think you are
getting).
I am planning to write a Perl script that sucks in all the NT users from
our domain and then creates the directories for our users and to chmod the
perms correctly in a 'one-off' batch. I know this is a bad approach but I
dont have time to play around - I need to get most users logging in
seamlessly and asap. Management wants results. Also I have a single NT
domain to work with and all my users are local making it easier for me to
test and advise users etc.
I am still busy creating the script - but it may be a worthwhile - quick -
hack - fix.
I strongly advise you look out for better proprietry solutions from the
pro's on this list - I will be keeping my eyes open too. Thanks for posting
the question - I was also about to ;-)
