I just upgraded my laptop to SuSE 9.1. I have my software downloads such as OpenOffice upgrades on an NFS mount off my main machine.
The UIDs / GIDs on the two machines are identical (I checked).
When I go to the share containing the OpenOffice 1.1.2 update as root and try to run
./setup -net
I get a message "permission denied". The file has execute privilege, it's owned by my non-privileged UID and a member of group users.
Why can't root execute it when connected via NFS from my laptop? It seems like it should run. Check how you export NFS, and look at the root_squash parameter. Also look at the exec and noexec parameter in the fstab file. -- Jerry Feldman
