I'm trying to get pam_smb to work. I have one server (suse 9.1), which is email/web/... server, there are also situated users home directories. Another server is Redhat, which is pure Samba sever, it manages with users profiles (so far all Win clients, users login to samba domain) and shares network drives (including home from 1st server). Now I want to login from Linux box (suse 9.1). Sometime early I got it so far, that it checked passwords domain\user during login, although it did't work (returned false or smth). Now I tried it behind another machine... Installed smb_auth package, added 1 line to /etc/pam.d/xdm and /etc/pam.d/login (auth required pam_smb_auth.so). To /etc/pam_smb.conf: mydomain,server2.server2 To /etc/pam_smb.usermap: user1=mydomain\user1 user 1 has account in servers (can login from win machines) and also in linux box. But when I try to start pamsmbd: /etc/init.d/pamsmd start it says failed. status says 'unused'. Any suggestions-guidelines, how to ge it to work, and to work properly :) I would prefer this, because I don't want to copy passwd and shadow files to every linux box and to keep them all synchronized. And I would also like to get home (and some other) directories mounted automaticly. One way is NFS, I would prefer samba.
