Anyone using BellSouth's DSL or Cable service with Linux? I just saw saw where I can get a decent connection for $5.00/mo more than I'm paying for Earthlink dial-up. But their site says Win/Mac - and nothing about Linux! I understand I'll probably have to hook myself up, but - sheesh! - they could at least mention the requirements for a Linux system.
I hate the dag-blamed marketing hype these companies throw out - always ignoring Lunix users!
It really doesn't matter. Informed users of any computer regardless of OS will use a gateway/firewall/switch/router to connect via standard *ethernet* to the Cable or DSL modem, and connect his computer(s) to the router. Your router has no idea what OS your computer(s) have. Even if you were using windoze you should allow no software to be installed on your computer(s). All their software can do is create unnecessary dependancies. Don't let them tell you otherwise. Internet routers are widely available for as little as $50 US and much easier than trying to configure any computer to do the same job. They are essentially genuine plug and play, but configurable with a web browser or telnet. You can add a software firewall to increase security, and connect as many computers as you care to connect via your local network. -- "Never tire of doing what is right." 2 Thessalonians 3:13 NIV Team OS/2 ** Reg.
