Hi all,
I can now confirm that there is indeed a bug in this build of SuSE's kernel. I think I remember someone saying they had some trouble burning an audio cd with k3b and this kernel earlier. I tried video tonite and managed to create 2 coasters plus complete system/kernel lockups on my machine while doing that! Bad kernel, bad SuSE, please fix! ;o)
I converted some avi stuff over to svcd format and each time trying to burn a cd at about 90-95% completion, the kernel would bring a complete halt to my machine! I don't think the audio burns created such a horrendous stoppage, just some bad songs.
Moving back to the -7.95 build kernel eliminated the bug/problem and the video burn worked flawlessly after that. I suspect trying to burn any image type file with this kernel build (104) might cause the same problems.
Be warned! Lee
Hi Lee,
Thanks for the tip!! I have been experiancing total hangs on a new 9.1 install. It has been driving me nuts. Let us hope that there is quick resolution!
This PC is an AMD XP2700 512MB Nvidia ATA100 aBit KV7 that worked quite well but after the last YOU cycle it has been frustration; hangs that only the reset or POR will break.
Peter, Lee: There seems to be something fishy considering writing CD's in the vanilla kernel, see http://kerneltrap.org/node/view/3659 Cheers, Leen
