does anybody know how to use X programs after su-ing to another user?
Use 'sux' instead of 'su'
It used to be that I could simply enter 'xhost +localhost', and it would work. But in more recent Suse distributions (currently running 9.1), it doesn't work like that anymore.
No, the equivalent command in 9.1 is 'xhost +local:' but if you use 'sux' instead of 'su' you don't need it, as sux will transfer the X authentication cookie to the other user
