I want to use gdm instead of kdm, and I did as follows:
1. install gdm package. 2. in tty1, I login as root and type: /etc/init.d/xdm stop 2. modify /etc/sysconfig/displaymanager : DISPLAYMANAGER="gdm" 3. type: /etc/init.d/xdm start
What I got is a blue screen with a message saying that there already appears to be X server running display :0......
Then I tried to reboot, but I still got the same blue screen.
So what is the correct procedure ?
How about: init 3 edit /etc/sysconfig/displaymanager to use gdm init 5 Worked for me (SuSE 9.1). I also set Gnome as the default window manager, which is my preference, but that shouldn't make any difference. David David
