To All:
I have the following setup:
ADVANSYS dual channel scsi: Channel 1 2 x 36 GB sda (ID0) & sdb (ID2) Channel 2 2 x 18 GB sdc (ID1) & sdd (ID2)
Adaptec 2940 UW sde (ID0) - IBM 2GB sdf (ID1) - Quatum 9GB sdg (ID3) - Quantum 4.5 GB --- (ID4) - Seagate 2GB sdh (ID5) - Quantum 4.5 GB --- (ID6) - IBM 2GB
Why aren't the drives at ID4 & ID 6 being detected by Linux during boot? Both drives show up in the Adaptec bios. Is this a cable limitation? If so why do all drives show up in the Adaptec bios but not under Linux? Are there additioal paramters I need to provide to have Linux detect all six drives? I searched the FAQ, SCSI HOWTO, and GOOGLE, but did not find anything directly applicable.
I am trying to string the drives on the Adaptec controller in a RAID 0 configuration (strip set).
Any thoughts would be appreciated.
I can't help on the recognition side, but I hope you have very little needs for reliability from your RAID 0 setup. With a 6 drive RAID 0, the odds of a failure are 6 times what they are for a simple drive. So if the above used drives have a 3-year mean lifetime before failure, then your RAID 0 is likely to fail every 6 months or so. Greg
