Hi,
I have beend using debian/freebsd/gentoo for the last few years, but: I am waiting for a new laptop (to come in a few days) which is SuSe certified - so I would like to give it (I mean - SuSe) a chance. As never had to pay for any of mensioned distros - this bad habit made me just download SuSe personal free iso. I do not know SuSe world: so here come the questions: 1. Is it fully functional OS (even when not purchased) ? 2. Will I be able to install development tools (command line ones - i do not need kdevelop) using this famous YaST ? 3. How does the situation with packages available look like (I mean could the amount of them be comared to gentoo 'portege' or freebsd 'ports' collections ?) ?
Best Regards, ...looking forward to be converted to SuSe :) Tomek
1. Download the boot.iso from the SuSE ftp site and burn a CD, then you can do a ftp install of the Pro version, especially if you have a fast link. 2. The development stuff is available for ftp also. 3. The packages are RPM, but as someone else has pointed out, apt4rpm and you are very close to Debian. Regards Sid. -- Sid Boyce ....
