-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA1 My point is this problem has recurred with EVERY version of SuSE since and including 8.2. This is not a case of faulty hardware. In fact I needlessly replaced a functional scsi burner because software issues made me think it was disfunctional. If you look back through this lists archives you will see my emails to this list growing more frustrated each release. I DID try to proceed anyway dispite the error messages. After moving the drive jumper settings the dvdrom doesn't work and the burner does. I have tried removing and replacing the dvdrom assignments using yast to no avail. Finanly I installed one last time and tried Fred's suggestions and installing from dvdrw drive. worked like a charm. On Monday 23 August 2004 15:24, you wrote:
Harold, I have no doubt that from the very moment this issue came to the attention of the engineers and managers at SuSE they've been working hard to rectify it. But they have to be careful, because haste in addressing a bug can lead to even worse problems in the putative fix.
Personally, I'm content to exercise patience in this matter.
By the way, while I, too, encounter the alert proclaiming the absence of recordable media in K3b, if you just go ahead and attempt the burn, it will work. At least it did for me when I burned an ISO image file to a DVD today under kernel 2.6.5-7.104-smp.
