This topic appears to have been round the loop without solution, someone whack me with the clue stick if there was a SOLVED post. Firewire external HD, works perfectly under 9.0 on the identical hardware, is seen by subfs, apparently, but then gives out the familiar "no media found" message when you change into /media/whatever and try to obtain an ls.
