-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA1 | I suspect that your new setup should be: | | I\ +--------> e.f.g.h | N| +--------> e.f.g.h+1 | T| +------------+ +--------> e.f.g.h+2 | E+-----------+ ADSL Modem +------+--------> e.f.g.h+3 | R| +------------+ +--------> e.f.g.h+4 | N| +--------> e.f.g.h+5 | E| +--------> e.f.g.h+6 | T/ +--------> etc | | | In other words your SuSE 9.1 should no longer be 10.0.0.1 but e.f.g.h | and further I suspect you need to configure it "manually" and no longer | via DHCP. | | Also note that you are now directly accesable from the internet, (no | longer behind a Nat/FIREWALL) so you NEED to start a firewall on SuSE | 9.1! | | Jerry You should get a cheap hardware based firewall or even better set up an old PII 300 with IPCop. Then do port forwarding. This way you only need 1 of those static IP's. I hope you didn't pay too much for them all! When I was doing something similar for my business I registered a full domain with a dynamic dns service and just used the IP that was assigned via dhcp to my router. Then I ran my own mail and webserver. This only cost me about $30/year for the domain reg and use of dyn-dns. I've recently moved to a web hosting company that hosts my site for $50/year plus gives me email, mailing lists, mysql database, etc. I just can't rely on my ISP to keep my connection up anymore, and as I'm trying to run a business, my web and email need to be accessible. - --Sayf - -- Blue Moose IT Support www.bluemooseit.com -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- Version: GnuPG v1.2.4 (GNU/Linux) iD8DBQFA7Yt3h6qZaDhhuVMRArZEAJ9ZNLGR/SRvdMhroJJvf8coqtt9awCgwHlo UeS+u99ey60qFnl5WNDlRBY= =kRa3 -----END PGP SIGNATURE-----
