Hi all,
I found a kcore file under the /proc directory. The following makes me rise an eyebrow:
# ls -l kcore -r-------- 1 root root 959205376 Jul 14 14:26 kcore
# file kcore kcore: ELF 32-bit LSB core file of 'vmlinux' Intel 80386, version 1 (SYSV), from 'vmlinux'
Does it mean that the system crashed? how can analyze the reasons for that crash? Is it safe to delete this kcore file?
Nothing in /proc is a real file. The "files" in there are windows into your kernel, for checking status or dynamically setting runtime parameters. kcore is the kernel core image, as it is in memory
