Hi, Danny, Thanks a lot for feedback. Sound distortion is not related to the CPU load, becuase: 1) on-board chip on the same machine works without these problems 2) the problem happens even if the CPU load is around 5% PS. How you have increased priority for K audio server? On Tuesday 27 July 2004 06:23 pm, Danny Sauer wrote:
I have similar problems with my SB Live 5.1 in that the sound starts to digitally clip (it sounds that way, anyway) if any of a few of the volume controls related to the PCM volume are turned above about 60%. This has been happening since one of the updates to SuSE 9.0, which leads me to believe that there are problems with the actual driver. I also have the periodic sound delay, but that was lessened by giving the K audio server a little more priority.
You might try running one of the myriad system monitor applications that display cpu load and possibly interrupt activity. I'm partial to xosview, personally. Glance over at the system load when you experience the glitches - I'll bet it's during times of high system activity.
