When I open a .pdf document, it displays in Acrobat just fine. When I attempt to close the Acrobat window using the checkbox of the window, then only my document closes, but there remains a blank Acrobat window.
Acroread is a bit special because it keeps only one process running. If you start a new process (e.g. "acroread document.pdf") then the original process displays the document.pdf in a new window and the new process exits. (See also "acroread -helpall", useFrontEndProgram.) An unpleasant side effect is that if acroread crashes (e.g. due to unsuccessful search in 5.0.8) then all open documents are gone.
I'd like to have it close fully when clicking the window checkbox, like most programs do.
It's only the last window that resists a bit and needs a double click. If you keep one window as an icon all the time then windows started via "acroread document.pdf" can be closed by a single click. -- A.M.
