Maybe this one is OOT, but I use Freeduc (http://www.ofset.org/freeduc-cd)
for my kid at home.
It can boot from CD, you don't need to install anything on harddisk and you
have everything for 6 years old children.
And of course it also can play sound and movie from CD (as long as there are
two CD drive in your computer)
I use it my old PI/300 with 128 MB, and my kid can use it.
How it can compare with other OS?
Of course I use SuSE for serious job on server, and also in my other PC.

Thanks Mads,
I feel better now. I'll get back to strangling the LAN.
You're welcome :-)
ps. That's not a quote from the integration team in your signature block is it?
