Hi there
Running Suse 8.2, I'm trying to connect via an Ethernet card to my router, which according to its manual has the default IP 10.0.0.2 . I've set my computer's IP to 10.0.0.100 and Gateway + DNS to 10.0.0.2 (firewall turned off).
The pcmcia (cardbus) Ethernet card seems to work, but when pinging the router I get the following message: 'Network is unreachable'. The command 'rcnetwork restart' tells me that my that shutting down is 'skipped' and starting is a 'hotplug' event.
How do I set up an network interface with pcmcia hotpluging; what could be the problem?
Cheers, Sam does your router have a dhcp server? It is likely enabled by default. Try using yast to configure eth0 as dhcp, with default settings. Also, 10.0.0.2 seems odd to me as the ip for the router. It may be right, but if it doesn't work, try 10.0.0.1, as gateways typically have a 1 in the last quad.
Also, I don't think it will work to have the router + dns have the same ip, unless maybe your router is also running a name server. Also, try setting up the pcmcia card as eth0 as well. I've had some screwy issues with pcmcia eth cards in 9.0; don't know if the same issues would happen in 8.2. Regards, Mark
