I finally have 9.1 up and running and can share with me windows clients, but I can't get the clients to join the domain. I get unknown user name when I try to join. I am open to any ideas, or is this another "feature" under 9.1?

One of the many things changed in Samba with version 3. Machhine accounts no longer get added by the add user script. A new directive, add machine script, must be used. If it helps, below is my config wich works as a PDC. I have been able to join XP machines to the domain and logon. NOTE: you may not want the cups stuff or the print$ share in there. Theses require using cups and rpc commands to load printer drivers on the server. On the other hand, all the clients now auto-load a default postscript driver for all printer access. You will also need to map groups using the "net groupmap" command. Last, but not least, I changed the passwd program to a script (nispasswd) that runs passwd and then updates NIS. # Global parameters [global] workgroup = DOMAIN netbios name = FILESERVER server string = Domain Fileserver passwd program = /usr/bin/nispasswd passwd chat = *New*password* %n\n *new*password* %n\n *successfully* unix password sync = Yes encrypt passwords = Yes log file = /var/log/samba/%m.log max log size = 50 socket options = TCP_NODELAY SO_RCVBUF=8192 SO_SNDBUF=8192 add machine script = /usr/sbin/adduser -n -g machines -c Machine -d /dev/null -s /bin/false %u logon script = logon.bat logon drive = h: logon path = \\%L\profiles\%U load printers = yes printing = cups printcap name = cups domain logons = Yes os level = 65 preferred master = Yes domain master = Yes dns proxy = No wins support = Yes ldap ssl = no [homes] comment = Home Directories read only = No browseable = No [printers] comment = All Printers path = /var/spool/samba printable = Yes browseable = No public = yes guest ok = yes writable = no printer admin = root, @domainadmin [print$] comment = Printer Drivers path = /etc/samba/drivers write list = root, @domainadmin inherit permissions = Yes map archive = No [public] comment = Public Share path = /mnt/storage write list = @public inherit permissions = Yes map archive = No [profiles] comment = Roaming Profiles path = /home/profiles write list = @public inherit permissions = Yes map archive = No browseable = No [netlogon] comment = Netlogon Share path = /home/netlogon write list = @domainadmin inherit permissions = Yes map archive = No browseable = No Don't forget to run "smbpasswd -a root".
