Hi All,
I am currently running suse 9.0 Pro on my home computer with KDE.
I was interested in installing and testing out Gnome. [snip]
You can choose which display manager to use in Yast. You are not limited just to Gnome or Kde. You can also make sure you have the right session when the display login appears after a boot by checking the session name off one of the buttons. As for installing Gnome - I have no experience of using the SuSe 9.0 disks. I have ulb-Gnome which is SuSE Gnome 2.2 tweaked, repackaged and by all accounts improved. You can find out more at http://www.usr-local-bin.org. I set it up after installing the apt-get packaging system (details on the site) which takes care of dependencies and allows the installation of ulb-gnome online. I can certainly say that ulb-Gnome has proved highly reliable and it's visually very attractive too, though that's a matter of personal taste as is the question of whether ulb-Gnome 2.2 or KDE is preferable. Apt-get has also turned out to be brilliant and I now use this in preference to the SuSE YOU system. :) Fish
