I have a e-machines M5310 which I just update to SuSE 9.1. It works fine except that the USB it totally hosed.
If I boot into run level 5 then: no USB drives plugged in at boot time work; nothing shows up in "/proc/bus/usb" (although usbfs shows as being mounted); and any USB hotplug activity will lock the system.
If I boot into run level 1 then: the three USB ports (001, 002 & 003) and "devices_please-use-sysfs-instead" show up, and the system doesn't lock up; but USB devices still do not work.
I tried rebuilding the kernel but that didn't help.
USB on the machine had worked OK using SuSE 9.0.
Any suggestions?
"mkdir /sys", I also have these in /etc/fstab on one box that works, but are not in on the other which has just usbdevfs, so may be just making the /sys directory will work. sysfs /sys sysfs defaults 0 0 usbfs /sys/bus/usb usbfs rw,noauto 0 0 2.6.x kernels use sysfs.
