As the subject of this email somewhat states, I am interested in discussing anything about a particular configuration. If this is the wrong discussion group, I would appreciate someone please let me know what discussion group I should send this to. We have already successfully installed Sybase 12.5.1 on SuSE 8.0 on the IBM X440 1.5GHz 8-way CPU with 4 Gigs of RAM using the FAStT600 IBM SAN. It took two weeks and some doing at that, because of the SAN mostly. To be honest we have not run any applications against it in it's 8-way config, not even speed tests. Now that we know we can install the 8-way, we are simply going to move on and bring in the second X440 server to set up one full 16-way CPU server with one iteration of Sybase 12.5.1 running on one iteration of SuSE. I suspect that this is going to be relativly the same installation with only the number of CPU's changed, but because this system is based on a 4 x 4-CPU clusters using external connection between two boxes and has both PAE and NUMA among other subsystems that will become more playful than in it's 8-way setup, I thought I would see if someoene else has attempted this or something like it. Basically, I am curious to know if anyone has any tidbit's of information or wizdom that would be helpful for ensuring a stable, safe and smooth installation. For example, would we be better suited with a different SuSE version or are there any specific items that we should upgrade or look for? Actually any information about the combination of SuSE, Sybase 12.5.x, a FAStT600 SAN and the IBM X440 would be welcomed and greatly appreciated...
