Router for definite. One correction/clarification, if I may?
Of course
Instead of "[recommended for window$, so must be good for Linux too]" you want [recommended for Linux, works with Window$ too].
The best hardware is Linux supported and that means it will essentially always handle Window$ as well. Lesser quality hardware only handles only Window$ and should be avoided.
That states something explicitly which I have instinctively worked to, but have never actually conceptualized. "This also gives you operating system independence [recommended for window$, so must be good for Linux too]." was meant in the sense of what is sauce for the goose is sauce for the gander [or Turkey and Penguin as they are known].
IMHO, YMMV ... ;-)

Interesting taglines. If this were the OT list, I would start a discussion on http://www.guardian.co.uk/comment/story/0,3604,1195568,00.html, but as we must be on topic, I'll wish you the most Linux compatible Penguin for president ;-) Vince
