If you want a nice true-flat CRT, Sony has some beauties, and the price has come down since I got my 19". No problem with Linux. You may have to input the parameters yourself, from the manual. (I don't remember anymore.) I have also used a 17" Sony on Linux. I don't think you'll find a better resolution than the Sonys have.
