Regarding the latest Mantel kernels .. In addition to my not being able to mount USB devices, even as root, the Intel nic support on my Gateway 200ARC notebook is broken. I've been trying to figure out a way to get dmesg output and get the information to Mantel and this newsgroup, but without being able to mount USB removable storage, broken nic support, and oddness with my CDRW (it keeps getting recognized and unrecognized), I can't get the information off the machine. I'm sure this is a known issue .. But the Gateway 200ARC is Centrino based. I have not been able to get any power features (I really could use the power meter!) on SuSE 9.0 with the latest YaST updated kernel or the kernel of the day. -----Original Message----- From: Basil Chupin [mailto:blchupin@tpg.com.au] Sent: Sunday, April 11, 2004 7:55 AM To: suse-linux-e@suse.com Subject: Re: [SLE] Kernel 2.6.5-7 and USB flash disk, and support for Conexant CX88 chipset Joe Morris (NTM) wrote:

The weirdest part of this -- no I shouldn't say "weirdest" 'cause we are dealing with computers here -- is that I can mount the flash disk manually- but ONLY as root. Try mounting this as user and the error message that 'only root can do this' comes up. The mount command, BTW, used is mount -t /dev/sda /media/sda1.
that should probably be mount /dev/sda1 /media/sda1
Yes, it should be. A typo on my part.
If you have any other ideas I'd be glad to hear them.
You could put the relevant info in fstab, with the options noauto, user added. Then add a desktop link, and you can mount it easily as user.
Thank you for this. So simple and straightforward - and it works. Why couldn't someone from Suse who reads this forum tell me this earlier and saved me hours of searching, reading, frustration, ....? Again, thank you for this solution.
