Periodically the .Xauthority file seems to get corrupted. At least, I am unable to launch any program because "Xlib cannot connect to 0:0".
If I logout I am unable to log back in using kde although I can log in via the console.
If I change to runlevel 3 and log in and run startx, everything works okay.
I discovered last night that if I delete the .Xauthority file everything works as per normal.
Does anyone know what is going on and how I can fix it? I am using SuSE9.0 and KDE3.2.
Thanks in advance.
Hi Eddie, Anders Johansson is our resident expert on .Xauthority. The little i know I learned from him. It seems that two main reasons for .Xauthority to get corrupted is installing a new version of KDE or starting X thru various window managers like you do.. Removing .Xauthority as you did, is one solution as it gets gets regenerated next time you log in.
