I am really puzzled as to the lack of file associations for the Open Office suite. I save something --anything-- in the native format and when I look at the resultant icon it resembles that of a ZIP file. Then, when clicked upon, it is opened into another window which displays xml data, etc, rather than loading into the proper OO application.
I finally did get the sxw extention to open into OO Writer by creating my own association but nothing has worked for the xls (spreadsheet) extension --so far.
Any insight as to how I might solve this problem??
Thansk...
I would assume you are trying to open the files from Konqueror? I had the exact same problem as you and after configuring the file associations in Konq, I was fine and dandy.
To configure the Konq file associations: 1. Start Konq 2. Click on 'Settings' 3. Click on 'configure Konq' 4. Click on 'File associations' 5. double left click on 'application' 6. Look for an OpenOffice Calc entry 6.1 If the entry is not there create it, if it is goto Step 7 6.2 Click 'Add' at the bottom of the list 6.3 Goto step 6 7. On the 'General' tab click on 'Add' 8. Add the extension you want Calc to open 9. Now 'OK' and apply until you have exited the Konqfigurator. 10. Now when you click on a file with a Calc extension it will open in Calc
