If I remember correctly, I had this same problem when I upgraded from
SuSE 8.1 to 8.2.
If the problem occurred elsewhere, I would certainly suspect BIOS or the
drive itself. That is why I checked out KNOPPIX, Mandrake Move, and even
polluted my CD-ROM drive with the Red Hat installer. At this point, I am
certain the problem is with the version of parted used on the
installation DVD/CD.
