dd if=/dev/zero of=/dev/hda bs=512 count=1 can be run from the SuSE rescue system.
Will this __safely__ correct/delete the MBR so I can reinstall it using the boot CDROM?
No, it will also erase the partition table. Use dd if=/dev/zero of=/dev/hda bs=446 count=1 instead and SEE the LILO documentation. The structure of MBR is explained there and also the messages "L", "LI", ... They indicate there may be something wrong with your disk geometry. -- A.M.
