Don't know if my original posting made it, so I'll try again with an update and an additional question.
I've got SuSE 8.2 PRO, ran a YOU security upgrade (It downloaded and installed an athalon kernal, I've got an AMD K6-2, go figure) anyway on rebooting the system, X wouldn't boot. Trying a startX gave me an error about modules not matching. Did an init 3 and tried running Sax. Sax2 just hung when I tried to run it vanilla.
Now for the Update. I remembered how to run SAX2 and use the open source nvidia driver. Now I can get into X. Decided to re-run the NVIDIA installer (sh NVIDIA-Linux-x86-1.0-4496-pkg1.run) and it complained about compiler versions. OK, I tried an export IGNORE_CC_MISMATCH=yes, reran the installer and got the same error. I'd really like to get the NVIDIA driver with all the great acceleration stuff running. Any Ideas.
OK, don't know what I did differently this time, but it compiled when I exported IGNORE_CC_MISMATCH I guess panic attack is over --- Charlie
