Just an ide. The laptop boots to txt only and in the process notifies
that the reiserfs has failed.
You could have one of a multitude of problems.
First, boot the rescue system.
Next, run reiserfsck on the file system that is failng during boot. Note

that reiserfsck will not repair a mounted filesystem, so the only way to
repair a reiser root filesystem is to boot using another root file
system.
Then mount that filesystem and take a look at it.
For example:
mkdir /oldroot
mount /dev/hda1 /oldroot
(Assuming that you are using GRUB and that /boot is part of your root
file system), take a look at the menu.lst file in /oldroot/boot/grub,
and make sure that the root parameter is correct. In my example,
/dev/hda1 is root:
e.g.) kernel (hd0,0)/boot/vmlinuz root=/dev/hda1 ....
