I use kmail Carlos and if something is set up wrong I am not aware of it. The oringanl message I typed as new to the list ........ Yes! That's precisely the method to hijack a thread. Regardless of the subject change, you are replying to another email, and when emails are sorted by thread yours' will still show as an answer to the original one, but with a different subject line, and with a content that is not a reply to that post. That is the definition of thread hijack. :-) The problem is, that some of us use threads to check only those subjects in which we are interested, and more or less ignore the rest: so hijacked questions will probably see less answers. Also, if some one tries to browse the web archive and find all the answers that were given to a certain question, he will have a difficult time if threads are broken.
if so then that is what I think I did to get the list address and I appologize. I now have the list address in my email addresss book and that won't happen again. This message I replied to all and erased your address and just used the list. Thanks Carlos.
Welcome. We all learn: there was a time, not too long ago, that I didn't know what hijacking a thread was. O:-) As you are using kmail, you can simply use the "reply to list" function. Also, at the bottom (using pine) I see a line saying: |> [ Note: This message contains email list management information ] Clicking there, I see a list of commands. One of them says: |> * A method to send a message to the entire list (Post). |> |> Select HERE to post a message. I suppose you should see a similar thing with kmail. -- Cheers, Carlos Robinson -- Check the headers for your unsubscription address For additional commands send e-mail to suse-linux-e-help@suse.com Also check the archives at http://lists.suse.com Please read the FAQs: suse-linux-e-faq@suse.com Thanks again Carlos for your time and efforts and for the education. I do appreciate it. This email should not show as hijacked in any way shape or form .. :-} Cj -- In case of injury notify your superior immediately. He'll kiss it and make it better.
