Hi,
SuSE-8.2
Yast2 -> Network Basic click-click -> Start inet service click-click -> activate click-click -> service ftp in.ftpd or vsftpd click-click running -> leave Yast2
root# /etc/init.d/xinetd status : not running root# /etc/init.d/xinetd start root# /etc/init.d/xinetd status : running (the first time) root# /etc/init.d/xinetd status : not running (immediately after)
Checked the logs?
/var/log/xinetd.log /var/log/messages
What do they say about your attempts to start xinetd? Leen
Good idea. I lost my old habits (Linux works better and better).
In /var/log/messages:
Bad log_on_failure flag RECORD [line=12] A local error was encountered while parsing the default section, xinetd will exit
The error message indicates that there is an parse error on that line:
I suppose that it is what is written ...
The word 'RECORD' is not recognized.
In /etc/xinetd.conf:
log_type = FILE /var/log/xinetd.log log on_failure = HOST ATTEMPT RECORD
On my old 8.2 system that still is laying around, I have this:
log on_failure = HOST ATTEMPT
Good!
===
/var/log/xinetd.log does not exist I commented in /etc/xinetd.conf
The line:
#log_on_failure = HOST ATTEMPT RECORD
Remove comment sign and the word 'RECORD'
And ... I can make FTP connection now. Apparently xinetd failed to log a failure.
It could not parse it's config file.
Problem of SuSE default configuration?
Is it really the default configuration? ;)
YES OUI JA DA NêM I have something else to do than editing my /etc/inetd.conf file. Thank you,
Cheers,
Leen
