Have you tried the netfilters website www.netfilter.org for answers to your questions? The documentation section has a number of tutorials and howtos that might help. Jeff On Tue, 2003-11-25 at 12:09, N1UAN Bob wrote:

Hi am just trying to find out some info so i can decide what to use first if i use ipchains in suse 7.1 with kernel 2.4.19 i am able to masq my outgoing packets but i can seems to use it to forward the incoming packets so i dont know what else to do with that maybe someone can tell me
Any chance of ever upgrading your system to something newer? Asking people here about ipchains and ipmasqadm is not going to go very far because not too many people use ipchains any more.
And ipmasqadm is not needed with iptables as far as I know... although I do see that it is installed on my 9.0 system.
If you get iptables running, you might look at Shorewall as an easy to configure firewall which will help you with masq'ing and forwarding.
the second thing is i download the rpm for iptables and install it also the iptables does load the ip_tables module up and if i do iptables -L i get an output from it it then loads the module iptable_filter so i guess that part works what i need to know does iptables require ipmasqadm to masq the incoming packets as it seem ipchains needs that is there somwthing else in iptables that needs to be use or does it work i been trying to get ipchains and ipmasqadm to do it ipchains work fine for outgoing but seems ipmasqadm does take any cmds any help on any of this will be good Sorry for the confusing message i just lost at this and trying to get oen of these to work thanks Bob
