Congratulations! How did you come upon the idea that memory was to blame? I suppose it is always something to be concerned but I rarely think of it when I try to install or upgrade on a machine. Best regards, Alex.
Hi All BINGO, HOORAY, HURRAH, CHOW I'm in business, installation enabled, and will probably be back with more questions in the near future.
The problem turned out to be a sporadic memory corruption which took SuSE Mem Checker 6 hours to nail down, "old out - new in", problem gone. [Uncle Bills mem check never found it]
MANY MANY thanks to all who inputted various suggestions with a special THANK YOU to BandiPat, Ian Laws and Alex Angerhofer.
Cheers Mike L
