Hi E.F.
I have used comcast with SuSE 8.0 through 9.0, only had to set eth0 for DHCP and all was well. Nothing special on my part.
It's not difficult at all. But if you had a problem and wanted support there is probably less than a 5% chance that anyone you'd talk to has ever heard of linux. Well thats a big exaggeration but 5% who might be able or willing to help you fix it. When they set up my system they entered the wrong modem manufacturer in their system so it updated the wrong boot file in my modem. When I called to see what was wrong I said that I'm using linux, and the response was it was a linux problem and they don't support it. It was only after I said that it didn't work in 98,nt,2000,Xp and mac 8.6 that she even looked at the diagnostics and noticed the boot file problem. The troubleshooting steps are the same its just where you'd go to check and fix these problems that is a little different. Comcast doesn't see the benefit of training their support staff in linux because they think only a few people are using it. -- E.F.Maurer Using SuSE 9.0 Pro
