Howdy I'm all new to this and woul'd like to try out SuSE. I've downloaded the 'Live-Eval' and it seems to work. To do the real install i'm recomended on the SuSE home site to do the ftp install. With a some time bad line, online install scares the crap out of me.
If you mean 'modem and telephone line', expect to spend a *long* time online. I did an ftp install using the bootcd.iso cd a while back to see if it was as bad as people had implied on the list. With the relative luxury of a network attached to a megastream leased line, I found it painless and easy, no different from any SuSE install apart from the fact that I need to choose the right kernel module for an ISA NIC - no sweat as I could remember what card I had in there. If you have broadband it shouldn't be too bad.
And the NFS i never heard of.
Network File System. What will happen if my connection gets lost
in the middle of the installation ?
I don't know, but I suspect if it was me I'd start again.
Is it safe to do the bootcd.iso install even though ?
When you say safe, do you mean safe for other data / oses on the existing machine? Or just 'will it work?' If the latter, I think you'd have to suck it and see. Just back up all data, of course, as usual, and have the install media for the os you're replacing handy in case your phone line lets you down. Or you could buy the cds from SuSE, to be honest I think you'd be way better off doing that. HTH Fergus
Or os there another way ? //Andy
