Sid, Could you tell me please where did you get modutils for this new kernel? And how did you generate modprobe.conf file? I've already posted my questions on inability to load modules into 2.6.0 kernel. Could you please enlighten me on this issue. Alex -------------------
I downloaded the source, copied the 9.0 kernel source .config across, did a make xconfig - suggest going through it all as keyboard, mouse
and VT(missed this one somehow) support have to be selected separately. make clean && make bzImage && make modules && make_modules_install, cp arch/i386/boot/bzImage /boot/2.6.0-test9;cp System.map /boot/System.map-2.6.0-test9 cp .config /boot/config-2.6.0-test9 vi /boot/grub/menu.lst
cd /boot; mkinitrd -k 2.6.0-test9 -i initrd2.6.0-test9 -d /dev/hda2 -s 1024x768 grub-install /dev/hda
I also changed /etc/X11/XF86Config "nvidia" to "nv", will have to check sometime to see if I can successfully modify 4496 for use with 2.6.
My network didn't start, so "/etc/init.d/network start" was necessary after "modprobe 8139too". Alsa modules did not load ... probably need to check /etc/modprobe.conf to see what's there, but manually installed stuff. Module Size Used by snd_mixer_oss 22016 0 snd_ens1371 26664 0 snd_rawmidi 27616 1 snd_ens1371 snd_pcm 111652 1 snd_ens1371 snd_page_alloc 12868 1 snd_pcm snd_ac97_codec 57796 1 snd_ens1371 gameport 4800 1 snd_ens1371 snd_seq_oss 36928 0 snd_seq_midi_event 8064 1 snd_seq_oss snd_seq 61264 4 snd_seq_oss,snd_seq_midi_event snd_timer 28292 2 snd_pcm,snd_seq snd_seq_device 9032 3 snd_rawmidi,snd_seq_oss,snd_seq snd 63236 9

Just a few rough edges to sort out, but it looks promising. Most
snd_ens1371,snd_rawmidi,snd_pcm,snd_ac97_codec,snd_seq_oss,snd_seq_mid i_event,snd_seq,snd_timer,snd_seq_device things
seem to be there and working and I've also answered my own questions
regarding modutils and modprobe.conf, looks like SuSE are very close to 2.6 with the 9.0 distro. Oh, I haven't got kmix to load, with alsamixer I can do settings, but no audio -- /dev/dsp, no such device. barrabas:/home/lancelot # uname -a Linux barrabas 2.6.0-test9 #1 Wed Nov 12 14:19:52 GMT 2003 i686 athlon i386 GNU/Linux
