if I use the nvidia drivers and run X, I get my usual 1600x1200 desktop (AFAICS) but viewed through a tiny portal (probably 800x600)
I have seen that before, it looks like you are running 1600X1200, but your desktop is 800X600.
The desktop is 1600x1200, but the screen res is only 800x600, so I get a window onto the desktop. Could just be the way we're using the words!
You did nopt say, but it looks as though you are running and LCD display.
No, a normal CRT monitor (a 19" Iiyama VisionMaster Pro 454). What's annoying is that I can use 1600x1200 with no problems with the nv driver!
Anyhow, try selecting the VESA display type which whould get you the 1600X1200 resolution.
Hmm. OK, I'll give it a whirl - but the system crashes the nvidia driver sometimes causes when it's unhappy don't make it easy to experiment!
Thanks,
John
