having just bought one of these printers myself I experienced the
pleasure of having it not work in Linux! I tried it with win Xp and it
worked and tried it with Fedora and it didn't. SuSE 9.0 was my first
choice and it didn't work. Anyway, a few hours later and a better
understanding of many things...some notes: if you pick the ML 1250 as
the printer when using YAST, it'll work. Samsung.com doesn't even list
the ML 1710 as a printer that they make! There are newer drivers listed
and downloadable on their webpage if you work really hard and find them.
I don't know if they work more directly or better than the ML 1250
drivers though. The best place for info on this issue is the
linuxprinting webpage and the disscussion group on samsung printers. I
wish I had visited this place before I bought the printer. It is working
pretty nicely with the ML1250 driver ppd files and cups. Except for one
issue that I am pretty sure I'll be able to resolve.
