Don't login via X on console screen F7. Switch to the F1 console window
(ALT+CTRL+F7), login as root and run yast. No need for X at all. Full YaST
functionality so you'll be able to choose YOU and get updated... character
based instead of GUI but you can figure it out quite easily.
