Hi. I am trying to install SuSE 8.2 on my brand new comp -- P4, with Asus P4P800 deluxe mainboard, featuring vt6410 raid controller. i attached my hdd to it, in order to save ordinary ide slots for other IDE drives -- 2CD-RWs/DVD/ZIP, but it does not recognise it -- it is known thing that there is only VIA's driver for it for RedHat7.2, and i found someone who mentioned that libata should support it only as ordinary ide controller -- but libata is present only in current mantel's kernels and will be present probably in SuSE 9.0. after thinking a little and reading howtos, i tried the following kernel param: ide2=0xdfe0 -- it found the ide2 controller, and it found my '/dev/hde', but with some additional mesages (cant reproduce them now -- i will try to write them down next time ;-) ), and hangs when it tries to 'probe' the hde device. i have 2 questions: 1. did any1 succeed trying to install SuSE 8.2 on a drive attached to vt6410? 2. Does any1 know, how to make SuSE's boot.iso from fresh (say, mantel edition) kernel sources? -- i'd like to try that before SuSE 9.0 ever gets shipped and before attaching my harddisk to ordinary ide slot (i.e. ide0) thank you in advance. --
