I am thinking about buying that ASUS mother board that you have. I think I will now for sure after hearing what you said about it. I think there was a misspelling, I think it is a A7V8X-X. The chipset is fully supported by suse which I found in their hardware database which gives it another reason to buy it. Also it supports 8x AGP video cards and it is cheap! Cheaper

I just delivered a ASUS A7V8V-X/LAN-UAYZ (about $65) and it seems to love SuSE 8.2. All that was needed was "acpi=off" in /boot/grub/menu.lst. Found was the sound and ethernet. My only complaint is the wheel mouse driver failing sometimes (crashes along the right upper corner). This is likely a gpm driver problem bcause it works great in X.
