Squid shuts down and that's the end of the internet session.

I would guess either your HD is full, or it is going bad.
Yep. Forgot to check the obvious. There are loads of gigantic files in /var/log/squid which I don't need any more. Any other candidates for delation which could go? We are about to start a new school year on our lan so now's the time to do it I suppose. Thanks, Steve.
