Hi list: this is my first post after a couple of years of absence from the list. I hope to be able to participate and contribute again for at least some time to come. Anyway, here is my problem: I am trying to build a 4-node cluster running SuSE Linux 8.2. When trying to set this up I found a problem with the on-board LAN chip (3Com 3c940 on an ASUS P4C800 mobo) which apparently is not supported in the regular kernel. After some googling I was able to download the latest sk98lin driver from syskonnect's web site and got things to work on my master node. Now, I'd like to network-boot the slave nodes from the master node if possible. In order for this to work I believe I have to put the network driver into the kernel, not just load it as a module. Right? Unfortunately, the kernel compile fails when I try to include the sk98lin in the kernel with the following undefined references: drivers/net/net.o(.text+0x9f9): In function `SkGeOpen': : undefined reference to `SkDimEnableModerationIfNeeded' drivers/net/net.o(.text+0xa01): In function `SkGeOpen': : undefined reference to `SkDimDisplayModerationSettings' drivers/net/net.o(.text+0x286d): In function `SkGeChangeMtu': : undefined reference to `SkDimEnableModerationIfNeeded' drivers/net/net.o(.text+0x2875): In function `SkGeChangeMtu': : undefined reference to `SkDimDisplayModerationSettings' drivers/net/net.o(.text+0x5288): In function `SkDrvEvent': : undefined reference to `SkDimStartModerationTimer' drivers/net/net.o(.text+0x5294): In function `SkDrvEvent': : undefined reference to `SkDimModerate' drivers/net/net.o(.text+0x52ad): In function `SkDrvEvent': : undefined reference to `SkDimDisplayModerationSettings' drivers/net/net.o(.text+0x59f7): In function `SkAddrXmacMcClear': : undefined reference to `SkAddrXmacMcUpdate' drivers/net/net.o(.text+0x5ad4): In function `SkAddrGmacMcClear': : undefined reference to `SkAddrGmacMcUpdate' drivers/net/net.o(.text+0x82ea): In function `SkPnmiEvent': : undefined reference to `SkGmCableDiagStatus' drivers/net/net.o(.text+0xe35d): In function `GetPhysStatVal': : undefined reference to `SkXmPhyRead' drivers/net/net.o(.text+0xf031): In function `Vct': : undefined reference to `SkGmCableDiagStatus' drivers/net/net.o(.text+0xf0a0): In function `Vct': : undefined reference to `SkGmCableDiagStatus' drivers/net/net.o(.text+0xf2b8): In function `CheckVctStatus': : undefined reference to `SkGmCableDiagStatus' make: *** [vmlinux] Error 1 Can someone please point me to a solution to this problem, i.e., what would have to be hacked to get this kernel to compile, or alternatively, how to get the network boot to work with the standard SuSE kernel (sk98lin is in as a module) and a working sk98lin module? Thanks in advance for any help. Best regards, Alex.
