This was from a couple of days ago and might be of some help. Nothing on usb, but will help setting the printer up and might give you information on anything you need. Might be easier to set up with serial.

Hi:
I just bought a HP LaserJet 1000 printer. Before buying, I checked the printer database, and I saw that model listed, so I went ahead and bought it. I also bought a HP scanner, ScanJet 2400. None of them work with SuSE 8.2. I have searched hp.sourceforge.net, but so far nothing has turned up that says how to get them to work. Has anybody tried any of these an made them work with SuSE 8.2?

I saw this the other day and guessed you probably want to get it to work. I've been using a HP 1100 for a while with CUPS. THis might help if you really plan on using this machine. Features are extremely limited and difficulty and probability of working are limited. IMHO. I set mine up on a RH based distro, but CUPS should work the same under SuSE (any flavor, http://www.cups.org/ ). Used a similar work around on 1100 and it does what I need. I used cups and configured it remotely so to minimize my ability to screw things up. Also limits the ability to trouble shoot.
Hi Will. I have a 1100A, but unfortunately its being faulty. Therefor I bought this 1005W, but maybe a wrong choise for Linux ??.

And for other printers: http://www.linuxprinting.org/printer_list.cgi
Some of the list guru's might have an easier way to get this working and/or trouble shoot it.
I have looked on these pages, but I seem not to could find anything of value.
For what it's worth,
will
