I'm almost, but not quite, ashamed to post this message. I have just reinstalled SuSE v8.1 on my linux machine (a new installation, as upgrade has never worked for me).
When I attempt to run a script, e.g., netscape-installer, as root I get a command not found error message.
(Yes, I know that running as root is a security hole.)
It works if I run the script as a user.
What have I forgotten to do?
When you go to root you most probably use "sux" right? "su" and "sux" by themselves give you a very limited path. Use "sux -" (that's sux<space><dash>) instead, which will give you a so-called login shell, where you should have the full path Also, don't forget that the current directory isn't in the path, so you shouldn't run just "netscape-installer", you should run "./netscape-installer". I'm guessing you've added . to the user path.
