I went through the exercise with the libdvdcss2 from packman site, still no sound. In force installed mplayer 0.90-1 inplace of the 0.90-rc4 that was already there. Now I have audio but no video, just a blue screen!
You need to install all packages from the page, not just libdvdcss2, look at the list labelled "zusätzlich benötigte Binär-Pakete" Also, don't ever use --force. To install MPlayer 0.90-1, use -Uvh --oldpackage. And the sound problem is for xine only, I believe. For mplayer, I *think* you need all the packages. But even if you don't it's a good idea to get them anyway, since they're newer.
