Why don't you set yourself up with dynamic dns (as available at dyndns.org for example) so that the IP becomes a non issue?

Or make a bash script with the line: /sbin/ifconfig | /bin/grep P-t-P | /usr/bin/mail -s subject my_account@my_mail_domain and transfer it with a cron. It works very well with me. grep P-t-P or another string, see the line in ifconfig where the dynamic IP appears. Regards, Alain

I have recently managed to setup a Linux box currently running SuSE7.2 . The machine is also running Samba for 3 Win9X clients and all works ok! Have the firewall setup and all is going just great!
I have a small problem though. I am not close to the machine and I would like to have access to it whenever the server dials in the internet. They receive their IP dynamically from the ISP so the only way I can login is if I call them and ask them what their IP is.
Can someone tell me if there is a way to write a small script or something like that, so that whenever the LinuxBox logs in the internet, an e-mail message will be sent to my e-mail at work notifying me about the IP that the Linux box has?
Thank you very much for your assistance!!!
Chris
