Technical Question about CUPS, LPRing

I need to find out what the difference is among the various options for printer setups. I run a simple, single-user setup. The default seems to be CUPS Foomatic database. There is also a CUPS SuSE Printer database and an LPRING. Where can I find out the differences among them? Thanks -- Dennis Tuchler
